The Anytime Session

Monday, February 28th, 2011

I spend a lot of time each year documenting weddings, newly engaged couples, and families. It’s what I do. I have recently noticed that I haven’t yet photographed a couple, NOT recently engaged or married, or NOT with several children just outside the frame pulling them in different directions. Yes, I always remember to take a couple of pictures of mom and dad during family sessions, because I think that it’s important to have at least one great picture of just them without the kids, but the reality of it is, the kids are usually causing trouble nearby and mom and dad struggle to smile for one one-hundredth of a second before Johnny pulls Sally’s hair and she squeals, attracting the worried attention of passers-by.

For all you married couples out there: How many times since your wedding day (how many years ago was that, again?) have you been photographed, professionally, without the kids, for no other reason than to get some updated, professional images of just the two of you?

That’s what I thought. And I’m guilty of the very same thing. (And yes, I plan to do something about that soon)

The Anytime Session is just what you and your significant other need – the weather is on the brink of turning to warmer days, and there’s no time like the present to have your picture taken for no other reasons than the ones stated above. It’s good for the two of you. Make an afternoon out of it: Hire a babysitter and go out for a nice dinner after the session. It’ll be fun. I promise.

The Anytime Session isn’t unlike my engagement sessions. It’s relaxed and casual, not overly posed with cheesy, fake smiles. It’s about the two of you, not your relationship with my camera. Ideally it would take place at a location that’s meaningful to you as a couple, but great sessions can happen just about anywhere.

Whether you’ve been married for just a few years, or you’re pushing a a few decades, call me to schedule your Anytime Session, and finally have some images of the two of you worth putting on the walls!

Sarah & Peter: Married

Monday, February 21st, 2011

Sarah and Peter were married last week on what was a fairly frigid day, even by February standards. Sarah had remembered me from a wedding a few years back that I had photographed. I love when people contact me that have seen me work in the past!

We started the day in Swansea, MA at Bethany Chapel. It was a real unique wedding ceremony that featured communion with Sarah, Peter, and Peter’s two sons. We then went to Linden Place in Bristol for formals. We were able to explore the old house and have a little fun inside where it was warm. Then it was off to Chiazza in Barrington, RI for the reception. Chiazza was a fantastic little place, right in the heart of Barrington that I look forward to trying again soon.

The evening was wonderful, low-key, and very family centered. It was far different than any wedding reception I have photographed before. Thanks so much Sarah and Peter, it was a real treat to spend the afternoon with you!

Some Off Season Shooting

Wednesday, February 2nd, 2011

I spent some time last weekend in an unheated old mill this a few other photographers, and our model, Scout. We explored the open space for a bit and created some really fun images. It’s always nice to meet and talk shop with fellow photographers in the off-season. I had a blast! These are just a few of my favorites from the day.
