Kim & Nate: Engaged

What a fun couple to work with! I’m already looking forward to Kim and Nate’s 2012 wedding! As much as they say that they’re not, Kim and Nate are both very photogenic; I had no trouble capturing some great moments between the two of them. I traveled up to Hampton Beach, NH for their engagement shoot a few days ago, and we were treated to beautiful late-afternoon light. Having never been to Hampton Beach, it was fun for me to explore the beach, boardwalk, and honky-tonk store fronts that the town has to offer. We roamed the streets and found some gorgeous light, then returned back to Kim’s grandparents home for some sunset images.

Thanks for showing me around Hampton Beach, guys! Enjoy these images – I had a lot of fun making them.

Stephanie & Nick: Married

Stephanie and Nick were married in Fitchburg, MA last weekend on a perfect day, complete with a rainbow appearing during the reception. Stephanie and Nick are both huge hockey fans and built their wedding day around their love for the game. The groomsmen had a tiny hockey stick arranged into each of their boutonnieres and the bride and groom were announced into the reception under an arch of hockey sticks, normally reserved for the military and usually done with swords. Nick surprised Stephanie during the reception with an appearance from the Worcester Sharks mascot, Finz. It’s so great to see brides and grooms really make their wedding day unique in such a big way! It’s all to easy too simply just write the check and have your wedding day appear with little effort. It takes some imagination to really incorporate something such as Stephanie and Nicks love of hockey into their wedding celebration. Well done, guys.

It really was a fantastic day – thanks for having me be a part of all the fun!

Before & After

Here’s another look at a before and after image. This image was taken the other day at Ashley and Kyle’s Engagement Session. I started by changing the perspective a little bit. I suppose I didn’t notice it as I took the picture, otherwise I would have fixed it before pressing the shutter. If you look at the panels on the garage door, they’re not square within the frame. It’s maybe a little ‘thing’ I have about lines being straight, but I really feel like either they’re straight or they’re not, and when it’s this close, I feel as though I have to fix it to make it work.

I brought the image into Photoshop and removed the scratch on the door that ran into Ashley’s face because I thought it was a tad distracting. Then I tweaked the color of the garage door a bit to be a little more blue, and a little more dramatic than the actual color. To finish the image, I applied a vignette to draw the eye towards Ashley and Kyle. The final image (in my eyes) is far more dramatic than the original.

Ashley & Kyle: Engaged

The Spring is such a great time to shoot your engagement session. The grass looks great, the trees are flowering, and the temperatures are generally reasonable. Last week, I met Ashley and Kyle at The University of Rhode Island for a fun engagement session, where we walked all around campus and took advantage of all the great backdrops it has to offer. Later, we drove down to a little beach hidden away in Narragansett.

Spending the time that I did with Ashley and Kyle just reinforces the fact that their wedding this July is going to be a ton of fun! They’re a fun loving couple, and I’m really looking forward to being a part of their big day in a few months.
